Attached Cedar Pergola

The house came with a covered patio that was always two chairs too small. This pergola extends it by twenty feet of framed shade, so the grill, the seating, and the walkway all live under structure instead of negotiating for the same covered strip.

Full cedar posts and doubled beams keep it from reading like an add-on, and the rafter spacing was set for afternoon shade on the west-facing side — the hours this yard actually gets used.
