Patio Covers & Outdoor Living in Lucas, TX
Collin County
Lucas kept its acreage while the cities around it filled in. Properties off Winningkoff and Stinson run to two and three acres, a good many with a barn, an arena, or a stand of trees along a creek, and the house sits far enough back that what people call the backyard is really just the portion of the land nearest to it.
Where the outdoor room belongs gets settled long before what it looks like does. With this much ground the right spot is often not against the house at all but out where a treeline breaks the west sun, or where a structure can face the pasture instead of the driveway. We walk a property at the hour it would actually be used and stake the options before a line is drawn.
Building on land also means the design has to respect what lies under it and who crosses it. Aerobic septic fields, spray heads, and the reserve area held beside them are closed to footings and to loaded trucks alike, and the daily routes between a house, a barn, and a gate are no place to park a building. Those constraints nearly always improve the siting once they are on paper.
What We Build Here
Services in Lucas.
Patio Covers
A cedar cover sized and pitched to match Lucas's rooflines, so the addition looks original to the house rather than added onto it.
ExplorePergolas
An open-rafter pergola over the dining table or the grill run, sited and spaced for the shade a Lucas backyard actually needs in the afternoon.
ExploreStamped & Decorative Concrete
Stamped and stained concrete poured over a base built for Lucas's soil, so the floor of the room stays flat for years, not seasons.
ExploreConcrete Driveways
A driveway rebuilt from the subgrade up, engineered for real vehicle loads and finished to frame the front elevation of a Lucas home.

Local Note
On Lucas acreage the limiting lines are not setbacks, they are the septic drain field and the reserve area the county requires you to keep in hand. Neither can carry a footing, a slab, or the weight of a concrete truck. We map the field, the reserve, and the routes livestock and equipment take every day, then site the structure in what is genuinely left, which is almost always more interesting ground than the strip behind the back door.
Questions
Lucas FAQs
Can I build over part of my septic field?
No. The field and the reserve area beside it have to stay open and undriven, so both are located before anything is sited and footings, flatwork, and truck routes are kept off them. On an acreage property it is the first thing we look for.
Can you match a new structure to my barn or shop?
Often that is the better reference. On a property with metal outbuildings, taking roof pitch, trim color, and post spacing from the barn rather than from the house produces something that belongs to the land instead of looking imported from a subdivision.
How do you get power and gas out to a structure far from the house?
One trench, opened once. Conduit for the circuits, a gas line sized for the distance, and low voltage for the path lighting all go in together, and the sizing is calculated for the run so the far end is not dim and the panel is not asked for more than it has.
